Rubble describes the blocks of stone as they come from the quarry. They can be used to construct a wall as they are, or with the removal of very irregular or inconvenient corners and edges. Rubble walling has an attractive appearance and has been historically used where a local source of stone is available nearby. The various types of rubble walling depend on the nature of the stone used.
